Historic Maps
Historic maps offer great insights into the location of many aspects of history, such as the location of business districts, industries, parks, and schools over time. Some maps in the Archive collection have been digitized, but in general most maps are not online and may only be viewed by visiting the archive.
Marilyn Reed and Jacquelyn Glavinick of Weld County have donated an index to the 1915 Great Western Sugar Company Map "The Irrigated Farms of Northern Colorado" which includes the owners of property in the farm areas of all of Larimer County, and parts of Weld, Adams, and Boulder Counties. The map is CO00113 in Colorado Maps and is online in four parts.
Conducting building research? Sanborn Fire Insurance maps provide detailed information including building footprints and use, construction materials, street names, and lot numbers. Sanborn maps for Fort Collins dating from 1886 to 1925 have been digitized and are available for online viewing using the Library's Sanborn Map database.
