DescriptionE.W. Whitcomb began freighting in the 1850s when he was in his twenties. In 1865, Whitcomb married an Indian in Cheyenne. His obituary in the 1915 Fort Collins paper stated he once lived in a tipi near the north side of the College Avenue bridge. In 1868 he had a ranch on the Box Elder. He sold the ranch in the 1870s and moved to Ferguson Street in Cheyenne. He had a store and extensive ranch operations. He lived till he was over 81 years old.
