| Description | Black and white photograph of the newly arrived Hispanic students at Owl Canyon School, District # 9. They are children of families working in area beet fields during harvest season. The 18 children increased the student body to 29 at the Owl Canyon School. Teachers were Miss Elizabeth Herring and Mrs. Alice Massey. Photo and article are from November 18, 1937 edition of "Fort Collins Express-Courier, " page 7. The photographer and feature writer, William Reddick Martin, was working for the "Fort Collins Express-Courier" in 1937-38, and these are his photographs that accompanied his articles. Mr. Martin was born February 10, 1914 and died July 2, 2005 in Denver, Colorado. |
