1. All researchers must sign the Visitor's Register each day
they use Local History Archive collections. On the initial visit,
researchers complete a Patron Research Form and provide
photographic identification.
2. Personal property not essential to research must be placed
in the designated areas. Notes must be taken with soft-lead
pencils, available by asking staff. Personal computers may also
be used as long as they do not disturb other researchers or
staff.
3. Smoking, food, and drink are forbidden in the Local History
Archive and in the Museum.
4. Local History collections are non-circulating.
5. Materials should not be written on, marked, altered, leaned
on, folded anew, traced, or handled in any way likely to damage
them. Immediately notify the staff of any damage noticed. If you
have a correction or additional information on an item, please
notify the staff.
6. Unless otherwise stated, items must be kept in the original
order in which they are found. If you feel that something is not
arranged in the order in which it belongs, please do not change
the order of the materials yourself, but call the problem to the
attention of the staff.
7. The Local History Archive reserves the right to restrict
the use of materials which are not arranged, are being arranged,
or are exceptionally valuable or fragile. Researchers may be
required to use microfilm or xeroxed copies of material when such
copies are available. If use of a collection or item is
restricted by a deed of gift or contract, the researcher must
have written permission from the donor. If permission is obtained
from the donor, the original copy of the letter shall be given to
the Local History Archive for its permanent records. Permission
to reproduce restricted material must be specifically obtained.
8. The Local History Archive reserves the right to refuse to
copy certain fragile or oversized materials. Researchers are
requested to be as selective as possible when making xerox
requests since the process is, ultimately, harmful to the
materials. A price list of photo duplication services and user
fees is available upon request. Any negatives made in the process
of duplicating materials from our collections become the property
of the Local History Archive. Researchers may not use their own
camera or video equipment to copy materials without the written
permission of the Local History Archivist or Museum Director.
9. Researchers assume full responsibility for complying with
any copyright, libel or literary property rights applicable to
their use of Local History Archive.
10. Local History Archive materials may not be published or
displayed, in full or in part, without the written permission of
the Local History Archivist or Museum Director. All materials
published or displayed must be credited to the Fort Collins Museum.
11. All materials are to be returned to the staff member in
charge. Researchers are responsible for the collection items
provided for their use until the items have been received and
inspected by the staff member. As a security measure, the staff
reserves the right to inspect all articles, including research
materials, brought into the Local History Archive Area.
12. The Local History Archive reserves the right to refuse
access to any individual who has demonstrated such carelessness
or deliberate destructiveness as to endanger the safety of the
materials in the collections, or who has failed to comply with
the above stated rules.
