A Guide to the Map Collection

This is a guide to the map collection contained in the Local History Archive of the Fort Collins Public Library. Aerial photographs are catalogued in the photograph collection and are not included in this finding aid. In general these maps are not available on-line. A few maps have been digitized and are accessible through this Finding Aid and the Photograph Database. Once the digitized map is displayed, click on the lower right corner of the map to magnify it for viewing purposes. View other Fort Collins maps online at the Geographic Information System map site and the Old Fort Cultural Survey Project (PDF format/716K). Online maps of Colorado are at Colorado State Archives and at the Larimer County, COGenWeb Project. View historical maps of the United States that include Colorado at the Perry-Castaņeda Library Map Collection at the University of Texas at Austin.

Each map has been given a catalog number such as "FC 48". "FC" refers to maps of the Fort Collins area; "LC" refers to maps of Larimer County; "C" refers to maps of Colorado; "OS" refers to maps that are of out of state areas; "A" refers to atlases. The map's storage location in the Local History Archive is referenced after the catalog number. A date and description of the map is also provided.

The Fort Collins, Larimer County, and Colorado maps have been organized by decades. For example, if you are looking for a map dated 1895, then you would click on the 1890-1900 hyperlink at the top of the map index. This will bring up all the maps from 1890-1900 on the screen. Scroll through the maps until you find those maps dated 1895. You may also perform a keyword search of the description and publishing dates through our database search.

Additionally, Marilyn Reed and Jacquelyn Glavinick of Weld County have donated an index to the 1915 Great Western Sugar Company Map "The Irrigated Farms of Northern Colorado" which includes the owners of property in the farm areas of all of Larimer County, and parts of Weld, Adams, and Boulder Counties. The map is CO113 in Colorado Maps. It does not include the owners of properties within city limits. The map is online in four parts: Northwest Quarter -- Townships 6-9 North, Ranges 66W - 69W; Northeast Quarter -- Townships 6-9 North, Ranges 63W - 65W; Southwest Quarter -- Townships 1-5 North, Ranges 66W - 69W; Southeast Quarter -- Townships 1-5 North, Ranges 63W - 65W. Additionally there is an on-line exhibit of rural properties at Larimer County Farms and Ranches.
