DescriptionState Dry Goods Building Fire. The fire began at approxsimately 10:20 PM on Monday, June 28, 1965 at the State Dry Goods Building located at 151 South College Avenue, at the intersection of Oak Street. By midnight, the entire state Dry Goods Company, Clolrado Drug Store, Bowen's Book Store and offices of several tenants on the second floor of the building were destroyed. Fire Chief Clifford Carpenter was killed and another fireman (James Witchel, 26) was seriously injured. Fort Collins, Colorado
