DescriptionOriginal is in estate collection of Charles Booee, Va. City, Montana. Now at Montana Historical Society- This is not the wife of Jack Slade. It is another young woman, Maria Slade, who was an immigrant from Canada in 1865 to Va. City. Note: There is an associated full page copy and annotation presumably from the Monatana Historical Society where the original is said to reside. It reads, " Nan Webber from Salt Lake doing project with photo archivist in Helena, Montana; Montana Historical Society. Found original of Maria Slade photo and photographer in Hancock, Photographer. Aylmer, Ontario Canada between 1881-1886. Eugene Hancock. On back 'To Caddie, From Slade." There was another Maria Slade in Verginia City who was an immigrant from Canada in 1865 who married Elahan (Eli Crosly (sp?)) April 2, 1883. This is her? Maria Slade, wife of Jack, was married 3rd time at date of this photo to James Reed. (1870) This could be her and she could have been in her 50s! She left Va. City by 1865."
